With a young family Joe and his wife decided to move back to Ireland and in 1965 McLoughlins was founded
in its current location in Ballyfermot. McLoughlin’s butchers have worked hard to develop trust with their
suppliers who have high regard for quality without compromise.

The story of McLoughlins began in the late 1940s, when Joe McLoughlin was working in a butcher shop in County Laois. Inspired by stories of opportunity in Australia, Joe and his newly married wife emigrated there, where he discovered new butchery techniques, recipes, and standards that were unheard of in Ireland at the time.

After several years abroad and with a young family, Joe returned home to Ireland with a vision to bring these skills back with him. In 1965, McLoughlins was founded in Ballyfermot, where it quickly became a cornerstone of the local community, serving generations of families with quality meats and traditional craftsmanship.

As demand grew, McLoughlins expanded its operations in 2007, moving its wholesale division to a modern local facility. This allowed the business to combine retail and wholesale production under one roof, complete with a custom-built dry ageing room and dedicated preparation areas for sausages, burgers, and puddings.

The following year, the company opened an EU-approved cooking facility to support the increasing demand for cooked meats. Today, McLoughlins continues to combine tradition, quality, and innovation — values that align perfectly with our commitment to serving exceptional food to our customers.
